Marisol is a 30-year-old single-mother of 6-year-old Emilio.
When they first applied to HIP Housing they were living in a domestic violence shelter;
Marisol had just left an abusive marriage. With no income and no child support, Marisol
was able to secure a job as a counter manager at Macy's and find a home to share through
HIP Housing's Home Sharing Program. At the same time Marisol put her name on HIP Housing's
apartment waiting list with the hope that she and her son could have a place of their own.
Marisol and Emilio eventually were able to move into one of the properties HIP Housing
manages. For the first time her son had a friend over to play. Marisol is now able to
spend more time cooking and enjoying quality time with her son. Marisol says
"there is nothing like having a place of your own to call home".
