There are Many Ways to Help
Making a planned gift to HIP Housing through your will or living trust can have a lasting impact on your community. Charitable bequests to HIP Housing help so many families and seniors in San Mateo County find an affordable place to call home.
After you have provided for family and friends, we hope you will consider including HIP Housing in your estate plans. You will be creating a special legacy for your loved ones and your community.
Why make a bequest?
- It is flexible. A bequest can be a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. You can also direct your support to HIP Housing or any HIP Housing program you choose.
- It is revocable. A bequest can ALWAYS be modified if you change your mind.
- It is free. Your bequest costs you nothing today, so you can enjoy your assets throughout your lifetime.
- It is tax wise. Bequests to HIP Housing are not subject to federal estate taxes.

Once you have decided to make a bequest, please give HIP Housing an opportunity to say thank you for your generosity. Informing us of your gift allows us to include you, if you wish, in special activities and events exclusive to our Legacy Society. Informing us also ensures that we are able to meet the terms of your bequest.

Your gift of stock to HIP Housing goes a long way toward ensuring that seniors and working families in the San Mateo County have a chance of finding affordable housing.
Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer to HIP Housing. Giving a gift of publicly traded stock may provide greater tax benefits than giving cash. Your charitable income tax deduction is equal to the fair market value of the stock and you avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock (subject to IRS deduction limits)*.

Corporate matching gifts can often double or triple your contribution. Many companies sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees.

Make a families’ holiday wishes come true through the Adopt a Family program
. Each holiday season the families in our Self Sufficiency Program provide a list of wishes that they would like to be fulfilled. The requests are generally for things like clothes, toys, shoes, or housewares. Your contribution can make the holidays extra special and create a warm lasting memory for our families and for yourself. Spread the joy by making this an experience you can share with family, friends or co-workers – adopt a family together!
If you’re someone who does not find shopping fun, you can always provide Stocking Stuffers. Stocking stuffers can be gift cards that are given to program participants or seniors at our Edgewater Isle Senior Apartment complex, or cash donations that go directly towards helping our Self-Sufficiency Program.

From your home to ours. Do you have any furniture, fine art, china, chandeliers, or fine jewelry that you would like to donate? HIP Housing is partnering with Sutterfield, a Consignment Gallery in Burlingame, Calif., that specializes in beautiful home pieces. Call or visit Sutterfield today and let them know that you are donating your item to HIP Housing. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of the item are donated back to HIP Housing and you get the tax deduction!

HIP Housing accepts donations of items or services that would benefit our clients, events, office or special projects. Your generous contribution greatly reduces costs which will allow more of our funds to go towards our programs. Examples of donations include home or office furniture, back to school supplies, and services such as photography, database design, specialized consulting services, etc. HIP Housing reserves the right to accept or deny donations based on need. Your car donation will help families find affordable opportunities in this very tight rental housing market. Donating a vehicle is easy, fast, and may be eligible for tax deductions if you itemize (consult the IRS or your tax advisor for more details).
