HIP Housing’s 2024 HOLIDAY ADOPT A FAMILY PROGRAM

Adopt A Family is a unique holiday program whereby long-time donors (and new ones!) provide essential needs for parents with children in the Self-Sufficiency Program or HIP Housing’s Properties. It’s a very personal program since each donor receives the names and ages of the family members along with their specific essential needs (clothing, shoes, bedding, household items) with sizes, colors and types of items. In addition, the parents and children choose one “wish” on their list that may include a toy, book, or other item that has been on their wish list for a while!

Adopt a Family Program benefits families who may not have the financial means to purchase gifts during the holidays. Between 60-70 families are adopted each year.

How to get involved:

  • Complete the application form and return it to Laura Fanucchi at lfanucchi@hiphousing.org
  • Once received, you will be matched with a family and receive their “wish list”.
  • Select at least two gifts per family member but no more than three. (A well-intentioned shower of gifts may create a holiday standard that parents cannot meet again).
  • If there is more than one child in the family, please ensure each child receives an equal number of gifts.
  • Each gift must not exceed $50.00.
  • All gifts should be new, gift-wrapped, and labeled with the recipient’s name.
  • Contact Laura Fanucchi at lfanucchi@hiphousing.org to arrange for the gifts to be delivered to HIP Housing’s 800 S. Claremont #210 San Mateo office or the family home.
  • With consent, after the families receive their gifts, with consent, a photo of the family is sent to the donor with a thank-you note so that the donor can see to who they provided gifts.

 

Other giving opportunities:

  • Donate to the Adopt a Family Program at http:/hiphousing.org/adoptafamily. Your contribution will go toward gift cards for older adults or to purchase gifts for families who were not adopted.
  • Ask your employer if your company would like to participate. Employees can shop and pool funds together to adopt a family.
  • Donate Grocery store or retail gift cards of any amount for a family to purchase Holiday dinner and other essential items.
