The Coronavirus Emergency Relief Fund

The Coronavirus Emergency Relief Fund

January 2021

HIP Housing created the Emergency Relief Fund to help ease our clients’ burdens. We received over 100 applications from those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Within a month, we were able to exceed our goal and raise over $237,000. Currently, we have distributed $181,017 across 230 households for rental assistance, child care assistance, and the purchase of groceries and other basic necessities.

We anticipate providing additional assistance to our clients in the months ahead, as the lifting of local, state, and federal eviction moratoriums will likely spark a surge in need. We estimate that at least 45% of our clients are experiencing financial hardship because they’ve either been laid off or have had their work hours significantly reduced. An additional 15% have essential jobs and are having to negotiate increased costs for things like child care.

As one of our clients, Sandra, wrote to us:

It has been such a blessing for me and my daughter to be able to have financial help during these uncertain times.

Due to the pandemic, I lost my job. It made it really difficult to deal with financially, but when I found out that HIP Housing was offering an Emergency Relief Fund, I was so happy. I don’t know how to fully explain how much I appreciate and value the support of all of the donors and the impact it has made in my life. Thank you to all the donors for having such a beautiful heart and supporting families just like mine.

Thanks to our generous donors, many of HIP Housing’s clients and tenants were able to hand in that rent check, make their car note, and go grocery shopping to feed their kids. Click here are their heartfelt thank you’s.
